Thank you for 10 years of “Employers support the NAKO”

Over 300 employers in Germany support the German National Cohort (NAKO). Since May 2024, NAKO participants have been invited to their study centre for the third time. The study is time-consuming, which can be a challenge for working people. The support of the respective employers is therefore an important and valuable contribution that makes it easier for employees to take part.

Numerous employers have been supporting their employees, in some cases for ten years, to be able to attend the examination appointment of around four hours. Experience has shown that taking time off work to visit the study centre increases the number of participants and makes it easier for employees to combine work, private life and NAKO participation.

“We would like to thank all employers in Germany who are giving their employees time off work for the duration of the study at the study centre and warmly welcome all new employers who are joining the ‘Employers support the NAKO’ initiative. They are all helping to ensure that more participants can take part, thereby increasing the scientific value of the study for a healthier future in Germany.”

Professor Dr. Henry Völzke, Chairman of the Board of NAKO e.V.

This motivates employers to participate

“As Hans Freitag Group, we are proud to support the German National Cohort (NAKO) and to grant our employees special leave to participate. This decision is an expression of our commitment to the common good and our conviction that the promotion of research and science makes a significant contribution to improving public health. For our owner, Mrs Anita Freitag-Meyer, it is a personal concern to actively contribute to the prevention and early detection of diseases. The NAKO offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights that will ultimately benefit society as a whole. It fills us with joy and pride to be a part of this important initiative and to offer our employees the opportunity to make a significant difference through their participation. Together, we are working towards a healthier future and showing that social commitment and corporate responsibility can go hand in hand.”

“The more we learn about diseases, the more we know about health. We need studies, science and medicine so that we can gain more knowledge and look to a healthier future. In physiotherapy, we have long known that prevention is better than cure. Prevention is a major focus in my physiotherapy practices and as an employer I am very happy to support the German National Cohort (NAKO). One of my employees was selected for the NAKO. I was happy to support her participation by giving her time off work.”

Ilka Zeller, Physioteams Falkenried

“Our health is the most important asset. That’s why IPM Berlin supports the German National Cohort (NAKO) as an employer. Because the more we know about widespread diseases and their causes, the better medicine and we as employers can respond to them. Findings such as the influence of our living and working conditions on our state of health can be used sensibly to develop tailor-made prevention programmes, improve the treatment of those affected and introduce new early detection measures. We look forward to contributing to a healthier future with our support.”

Oliver Massalski, Institut für Public Management

„When employees were asked to take part in the German National Cohort (NAKO) , it was a matter of course for us to release them from their duties. After all, we as an organisation will ultimately also benefit from the results of the health study. One topic of the NAKO is the early detection and treatment of depression. This falls within our range of services – we support those affected as part of psychosomatic rehabilitation, but also offer prevention and aftercare programmes. However, in order to be able to provide the right treatment and further develop the options, we need valid data, which this study can provide. We all work here for the mental health of our patients. And the well-being of my employees is also very important to me. That’s why we support the NAKO wholeheartedly!”
