The General Assembly of NAKO e.V. took place on 21–22 October 2025 at the Helmholtz Munich Congress Center — two days filled with engaged discussions, valuable insights, and collective work on the future of the German National Cohort.
Chaired by Professor Dr. Annette Peters, Chair of the NAKO e.V. Board, this year’s General Assembly provided space for updates, open exchange, and constructive development. The agenda featured reports from the Board and the 18 study centers, topics related to data availability and data use, biobanking and OMICS, project communication, and the introduction of the new expert group on “Artificial Intelligence.”

Hands-on insights were offered through guided tours of the central biorepository of the German National Cohort at Helmholtz Munich. More than 26 million biospecimens from the German National Cohort are stored here for scientific use.
The NAKO biorepository at the Helmholtz Munich research campus is Germany’s largest storage facility for biospecimens. Thanks to state-of-the-art infrastructure, highly innovative robotics, and expert staff, biomaterial can be stored long-term at –80 °C and –180 °C.
