With the opening of the TransferHub on 31 March, scientists from all German-speaking countries will have access to the data from the initial investigation of the German National Cohort (NAKO).
The TransferHub was developed by NAKO e.V. as a tool to provide researchers with technical access to the study data of the German National Cohort (NAKO). Using the data directory it contains, registered users can view which study data the German National Cohort (NAKO) has collected and quality-assured from the 205,000 participants.
“This opening represents an important step for the German National Cohort (NAKO), as the TransferHub has so far only been used internally by the research institutions involved in the NAKO.”
Professor Dr. Tobias Pischon, Head of the Molecular Epidemiology Research Group at the Max Delbrück Centre Berlin and Member Board of Directors NAKO e.V.
The TransferHub is the web portal of the German National Cohort (NAKO) for applying for data for scientific analyses. Via the TransferHub you can:
1) Descriptions of the available data can be viewed here,
2) use and access application can be prepared and submitted online and
3) The processing status of use and access applications can be tracked.
“The initial, NAKO-internal restriction meant that processes could be tested and functions checked. Now the study data is also available to scientists from other research institutions in German-speaking countries,” Prof. Pischon continues.
“We have been working towards this step for years and look forward to the scientific collaborations that will result from it,” says Prof. Dr. Annette Peters from Helmholtz Munich and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and Chair of the Board of Directors the German National Cohort (NAKO).
In the near future, it is planned to make the data available to EU researchers and then to the global scientific community.
