Last week, scientists met in Dresden at the joint symposium “Health-together 2024”, organised by five renowned professional associations. On 11 September, the German National Cohort (NAKO) held two symposia of its own, at which NAKO experts presented the latest findings from Germany’s largest population study and discussed them with their colleagues.
In two lecture sessions, NAKO researchers presented current strategies and developments in the German National Cohort (NAKO) and provided insights into specific key topics. Among other things, Prof. Dr. Klaus Berger reported on the completion of the SoccHealth football study, in which over 340 former professional footballers were included. Another focus was on research into neurological and psychiatric illnesses in the German population. The NAKO researchers were delighted with the lively and inspiring dialogue with the numerous listeners at the two symposia. Together, the aim is to promote innovative ideas, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, gain new scientific insights and actively shape the future of prevention research.

Under the motto “Health – thinking, researching, acting together”, the leading specialist societies from Germany in the fields of biomedical informatics, biometrics, epidemiology, social medicine, prevention, medical sociology and public health came together for the first time:
- Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizinische Information, Biometrie und Epidemiologie (GMDS)
- Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sozialmedizin und Prävention (DGSMP)
- Deutsche Gesellschaft für Epidemiologie (DGEpi)
- Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizinische Soziologie (DGMS)
- Deutsche Gesellschaft für Public Health (DGPH)

The conference venue was the culturally rich Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden, where the researchers had the opportunity to learn about and discuss exciting topics at the specialist congress. The German National Cohort (NAKO) also took part in the programme with additional presentations.
