Study on the development of complications of fatty liver disease, including cirrhosis. The aim of the project is to investigate the prevalence and incidence of fatty liver disease, as well as its progression and the development of complications leading to cirrhosis. To this end, the ultrasound-based Fibroscan system is being used on participants at the Halle study centre. The approximately five-minute examination measures liver stiffness and fatty liver in a standardised manner. In addition, serum bilirubin (direct and indirect), serum albumin and INR are measured by laboratory analysis.
