Eryptosis as a biomarker for nutritional status and cardiovascular health

Project goals

The aim of this project is to measure the proportion of eryptotic erythrocytes in the blood of participants at the Halle site.

Among other things, the project will investigate the extent to which eryptosis is a biomarker for nutritional status and cardiovascular health. Eryptosis involves the controlled breakdown of red blood cells (erythrocytes) before the end of their 120-day lifespan.

Furthermore, the extent to which eryptosis is influenced by vitamin D status will be analysed. In addition to eryptosis, the 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels in the serum of approximately 2,000 participants at the NAKO site in Halle will also be examined.
